Great success of the classic car painting campaign

From 04 to 06 October 2024, children aged 2 to 14 transformed classic cars into colourful works of art in the new city park in Leichlingen. Under the motto “ART CAR for peace and against terror”, organized by Leichlingen Hilft in cooperation with Rolf Löbig, the children enthusiastically painted their messages for peace and against terror on the vehicles.

The rush was already great on the first day, but on Saturday the response exceeded all expectations: More children than expected came to live out their artistic creativity. On Saturday evening around 5 p.m., the colors had run out, but we quickly got supplies so that the action could be continued on Sunday, the last day. On Sunday, many children and families came again, painting until after 6:30 p.m. despite the closed fruit market.

The children visibly had a lot of fun with the action. “Children see the world with colors that we often lack. Today they have shown us how colorful peace can be.” These words of one participant perfectly sum up the importance of this project. It was particularly touching to see how children from different backgrounds painted together with inclusive children and helped each other – a role model for all of us.

The visit of WDR Lokalzeit on Friday also contributed to the fact that even more people became aware of the project. Through the reporting, we were able to reach many visitors who took part in the weekend and supported the campaign.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the volunteers of Leichlingen Hilft, who were there with a lot of commitment and compensated for the cancellation of the planned artists with their active help. We would also like to thank Globolus and other generous donors who provided us with the painting shirts so that the children could paint protected and carefree.

The classic car painting action was a great example of peace, tolerance and community, values that are more important than ever in today’s world. We are proud to have set a creative sign for peace with this action and would like to thank everyone who took part and supported us.

This unique opportunity will not only remain in the memory of the children, but will also leave a lasting impression at school and later in life. Even the parents – our “big children” – had to be reminded again and again to leave the brush to the little ones!

Leichlingen Hilft is looking forward to promoting togetherness through similar projects in the future and would like to thank all supporters, participants and helpers who made this success possible.
