Honorary office celebrated: Appreciation of the commitment to immigrants in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district

Leichlingen Hilft is proud to be part of this strong network of committed people who work every day to make life a little better for immigrants and people in need.

In the entire Rheinisch-Bergisch district, volunteering is an indispensable pillar of society. Thanks to the commitment of many volunteers, countless projects are realized that would otherwise not be possible. Particularly important is the commitment to the integration of people who have recently arrived in Germany, often after traumatic experiences on the run. Thanks to the support of numerous volunteers, it is easier for these people to arrive.

As part of the annual district-wide volunteer festival, about 150 volunteers came together to honor their commitment. The “New Neighbours” campaign of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, the specialist service for integration and migration of Caritas Rhein-Berg, the city of Bergisch Gladbach and the Municipal Integration Centre invited to the Old Swimming Pool in Herrenstrunde. Volunteers from all over the region who are involved in refugee aid used the evening to exchange ideas, network and receive recognition for their work.

Recognition for valuable work

The volunteers support new arrivals in dealing with the authorities, looking for housing or school places and offer them conversation partners in a challenging life situation. This often leads to friendships that go far beyond the initial idea of help. “Through my volunteer work, I get to know people from different countries and learn a lot about their fates. That touches me deeply,” reported one participant.
